In the summer of 2003,
The Modern Zoo hosted the largest independent art exhibition the West Coast has ever seen in a 120,000 sqft. building in St. Johns, Oregon. Displaying the works of over 125 artists and attracting more than 15,000 visitors in two and a half months, The Modern Zoo documented the rising creative spirit of Portland in a memorable and groundbreaking fashion. This is the site of the now defunct organization co-founded by Disjecta Director Bryan Suereth, and Portland Art Center's Gavin Shettler. A special thank you to all of the Modern Zoo staff for their dedication and charisma; their contributions were invaluable.
