![]() For Immediate Release Portland Center for the Advancement of Culture Celebrates the Success Portland, Ore. - Following the success of its well-attended opening event, the Portland Center for the Advancement of Culture (PCAC) will add more than 15 new art exhibits and programs to its already active gallery space called the Modern Zoo (6635 N Baltimore) in a second opening on July 12th from 6 � 11 p.m. PCAC will also host an Experimental Jazz Festival on July 19 & 20th to complement the popular Cathedral Park Jazz Festival; and show the work of regional filmmakers on Friday nights in July as part of its Northwest Film Fest series. Second Opening Featuring Peninsula Artists Show New artists at the Modern Zoo in July include 2003 Oregon Biennial artist Chas Bowie debuting a new body of photographs called "Sunjects"; a mixed media and video installation entitled "The Snug" by Emily Henderson and Molly Roth; "Dark Mass" by Jacinda Russell; works by Chandra Bocci; "Brian S. Eats Cock" by Zefrey Throwell of Alphabet Dress; two new paintings by Alicia McDaid; and a two-night dance performance, "Les Petits Rats", by Margery Fairchild; among others. Experimental Jazz Festival and The Modern Zoo Film Fest Saturday�s lineup includes the 411 Quartet (Leif Erik Sundstrom-Percussion, Kelvin Pittman-Sax, Mark Kaylor-Drums, Steve Schneider-Sax) opening for the Rob Blakeslee Trio (Rob Blakeslee, Billy Mintz, Michael Bisio). Sunday�s lineup includes the John Gross/Jonas Tauber Duo opening for The Michael Vlatkovich Octet (Michael Vlatkovich-Trombone/Compositions, Rob Blakeslee-Trumpet, Michael Powers-Bass Trombone, Rich Halley-Tenor Sax, Chad Hensel-Clarinets, Tom McNalley-Guitar, Jonas Tauber-Bass, Ken Ollis-Drums), with Tim DuRoche and Lisa Radon performing spoken word and sound in between sets. The Modern Zoo Film Fest kicks off on Friday, July 11th, at 9 p.m. with "Jerk Beast", a film about three unsuspecting heroes who rise to the peak of rock and roll directed by Brady Hall and Calvin Reeder and produced by Brian Wendorf.
